About Halcyon Daze

Halcyon Daze was originally created as a place for me to publish the wild rock radio stories floating around in my head and wanting out. My hopes were to write all the individual “gently embellished” stories first and then someday put them together into a continuous written narrative- a novel or a screenplay- that would be fiction “loosely based on the events.”

Along the way I started to write about Tim The rock N Roll Animals “Ledge” stunt and it has ended up as a newly completed book.

Having announced the itinerary for what would be titled their “Farewell Tour,” The Who were once again going to snub Milwaukee. Milwaukee, the hardest rockin city in the country, had grown tired of their “little sister of Chicago”and “second city of the second city” status. Thus, they were willing to lay it all on the line in an effort to MAKE the band come. As “The Animal” stepped out out of the penthouse onto the 21st story ledge of the radio stations downtown Milwaukee building, there were no gaurantees and there was no end in sight. But that didn’t matter. He promised to stay out there until the band decided to put Milwaukee back on the map. It’s a magical journey that changed the cities perception of itself.

Anyway, given the cathartic feeling that reliving wonderous times of the past gave me, I’ve encouraged others who worked at Milwaukee’s rock radio stations to contribute stories of their own. That’s what this is. Milwaukee rock radio stories written by myself and others.

Enjoy.

  1. I have never been first in anything before, so thank you so much! Yippee!

    xx

  2. Sadly, a post on the Space Commander Green story was the first. But you were the first on THIS post. Any consolation?
    OOO

  3. That will have been yours truly. I remember the Steve Dahl “era” very fondly; it was my junior year at UWM and my last taking morning classes. My buddy and I would listen to Steve, Garry and the gang as we cruised up the lakefront from the south ‘burbs. Steve had this stereotypical gay character named “Rex” who would sometimes take calls – once a caller asked “Rex, what’s it like to make love with Steve Dahl?” Thought old Steve was going to have a coronary. Every once in a while we got stoned on the way in to school and that made Steve’s wack shit even funnier. Hell, I even went to see him and his band play at the Oriental (I think it was the Oriental; all I remember that I was shitfaced and had a blast).

As before, thanks for the memories, Scott! I have a somewhat longer piece I plan to contribute when I have the time. Which is not now.
