The Violent Femmes 1986 Interview

93QFM didn’t play the Violent Femmes music and, in that they were from Milwaukee, in 1986 this was becoming an issue as “the legend” had become internationally known and they had returned from a very successful 3oo city tour of the whole freakin world.

In what was ostensively a chance to plug a nearby gig for a group of local musicians called “The Noisemakers from Hell,” Brian Richie and Victor DeLorenzo joined me for an hour on the call-in style talk show I hosted back then called “Talking to Q.”Gordon Gano, the ecentric and gifted writer of the songs, joined in at the end via telephone.

They talk about the infamous Pretenders “discovery” gig at the Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee and they also describe the origin of the bands formation and how they earned their record deal. There’s much more as they are free wheeling and comfortable and display a commeradarie and closeness that belies their real friendships with each other.

This first part runs 19:22.

Part Two runs 10:27.
